Mountain Zebra National Park

Mountain Zebra National Park is situated west of Cradock, in the shadow of the Bankberg mountain range. The reserve, proclaimed in 1937, has become home to the Cape mountain zebra, which were facing extinction, their population is currently over 300. Other game found in the reserve include, eland, wildebeest, gemsbok, Grey Rhebok and red hartebeest. The only cat found in the area is the Caracal or African Lynx, as it is commonly known. The caracal hunts rodents, birds, reptiles and other small mammals, which make up most of the diet, but occasionally take small deer. Accommodation includes family cottages, equipped and serviced daily, a guesthouse plus campsites.

The Bankberg Mountain Range offers magnificent views over the Karoo. This small park protects one of the rarest animals in the word - the mountain zebra, but it is also home to many antelope species. There are few roads and you can choose to go on a three day Mountain Zebra Trail or two short day walks.
