Shimuwini Bushveld Camp

Shimuwini Bush Camp lies on the banks of the Letaba River, at the Shimuwini Dam. The surrounding vegetation is predominantly Mopane, but the Letaba River is lined with large trees, including the very large Baobab, after which Shimuwini was named.

Bush camps provide luxurious accommodation in smaller, more remote rest camps. One or more accommodation units may be reserved. Bush camps do not have shops or restaurants. Access to all bush camps is restricted to overnight visitors with reserved accommodation. Electrical equipment, such as hair dryers can be used. Open verandas serve as a kitchen/dining room. All units have a refrigerator, cooking utensils, crockery, cutlery and a stove, either a two-plate stove without an oven, or a four plate stove with an oven in the larger units. All units have private ablution facilities.

Guest Cottages

2-Bedroom units - Both bedrooms have ceiling fans - one has 3 single beds, and the other 2 single beds. One bedroom has a bathroom en-suite (bath, toilet and washbasin). There is a separate toilet, as well as a separate shower and washbasin. The kitchen has a gas stove (with oven), refrigerator, sink, cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery. The dining room is on an open veranda.

3-Bedroom unit - There are two single beds and a ceiling fan, as well as en-suite bathroom with bath and toilet in each bedroom. There is an outside shower, for a private shower under the stars. The bathroom has a bath, toilet and washbasin and inter-leading doors to the bedroom and living room. The living room has 2 lounge chairs and a ceiling fan. The outside dining room is on a large, partly enclosed veranda with two coffee tables, 6 chairs and a kitchen table. The kitchen is inside and has an oven and stove, refrigerator, cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery.

Cottages

1-Bedroom units - The bedroom has two single beds and a ceiling fan. The living room has 2 lounge chairs and a ceiling fan. The bathroom has a bath, toilet and washbasin and inter-leading doors to the bedroom and living room. The kitchen and dining room is on an open verandah and has a two-plate gas stove (without oven), sink, refrigerator, cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery.

Extra Information

Plan your trip – do not try and cover too great a distance. Kruger is a massive tract of land and frequently visitors try to cover too much ground. Slow travel and regular stopping produces much more action than covering a lot of ground.
Early mornings and evening time are usually the most productive game viewing periods.
Remember to bring a camera, binoculars, bird and wildlife reference books, a hat and sunscreen lotion. Also remember to take along medicines such as anti-histamine and lotion for insect stings and bites.
Do not leave any food unattended, as thieving monkeys and baboons are a constant threat.
The speed limit is 50 km/h on tar and 40 km/h on gravel.
Visitors are not permitted to leave their vehicle other than at designated get out points and rest camps.
Pets are not permitted in a national park.
Firearms must be declared at the entrance gate and sealed. The seal will be broken upon departure.
Open vehicles must obtain the necessary permit.
Feeding of the animals is strictly prohibited for yours and the animal’s safety and well-being.

Climate
Kruger Park lies in a summer rainfall area with possible downpours occuring later in the day. The summer months (October to April) are hot. Winter’s are warm and mild, with very cool evenings.
