Addo Elephant National Park is sanctuary to over 350 elephants, 280 Cape buffalo, black rhino, a variety of antelope species, as well as the unique flightless dung beetle, which is found almost exclusively in Addo. There are also many other large herbivores, particularly antelope species such as kudu, eland, red hartebeest and springbok. The highly adaptable leopard has always managed to survive in the area and with the consolidation of the land during park expansion, lion have been reintroduced to complete the big five.

With the park now stretching to the shores of the Indian Ocean, whales and dolphins will swell the viewing opportunities. Among the smaller mammals to search for are family groups of suricate or meerkat (of Timon from "the Lion King" fame) may be seen.

Addo’s birding opportunity covers excellent habitat contrasts between dense thickets of Spekboom interspersed with open grassy areas and wooded kloofs, particularly in the Zuurberg region. In and around the Addo Rest Camp, Karoo and Cape Robin, Bokmakierie, Southern Tchagra and Cape Bunting are prominent.

All accommodation is serviced daily and provided with bedding, towels and soap.

Six-bed guest cottages, each with two bedrooms, bathrooms en suite (one with bath, one with shower), fully equipped kitchen.

Four-bed cottage, one bedroom, bathroom (bath and shower), open plan partially equipped kitchen.

Family Chalets each with two single beds, a double sleeper couch, bathroom (bath and shower), basically equipped kitchen.

Two-bed rondawels, each with bathroom (shower), refrigerator, communal kitchen facilities with basic kitchen equipment.

Two-bed forest cabins, half with bathroom facilities, half without - each equipped with cooking utensils; communal kitchen facilities.

Caravan and campsites, communal ablution and kitchen facilities. Caravan sites equipped with 220V power points.

A maximum of six persons, one caravan with a side tent and one vehicle, or one tent and one vehicle, or one auto villa or one motorised caravan will be permitted per site.

Narina Bush Camp: This rustic camp accommodates eight people at any one time. There are four dome tents that cater for the overnight sleeping arrangements inclusive of linen. No food or drinks are provided for and it is up to the guests to provide for themselves. Firewood is available for campfires at night. Paraffin lanterns are available for overnight use. There is a kitchen with a gas stove, fridge, paraffin lamps, cutler, crockery and cooking utensils. Ablution facilities consist of one shower and one flush toilet.

Narina Bushcamp:  For those who want to get away from it all, there is the option of staying in the Narina Bush Camp, situated on the banks of the Witriver in the Zuurberg Mountains. The bush camp is approximately 22km on gravel road from the main camp at Addo and has no facilities such as electricity, a shop or restaurant. The camp can be reached by vehicle, walking trail or on horseback.

Climate:  Temperate to mild to warm, with annual rainfall of 450mm occurring throughout the year.

Handy Hints:  Bring along binoculars, camera walking shoes and wildlife reference books.
Road maps of tourist routes within the park are available at the reception area.

Take Note:  Pets are not allowed in national parks.  Firearms to be declared at reception where they will be sealed. The seal will be broken upon departure.  No citrus fruits may be brought into the park.
Medical, vehicle repair and police services are available at Addo Village and Sunlands (15km).
